Entergy Miss., Inc. v. Richardson

Charles E. Ross and James E. Graves, III successfully prosecuted the appeal of a Hinds County Circuit Court’s decision to reinstate a previously dismissed negligence action arising out of a 2001 automobile accident involving a truck owned by our client, Entergy Mississippi, Inc.

On March 20, 2014, the Mississippi Supreme Court held that the reinstatement was improper. The Supreme Court, therefore, reversed the judgment of the Circuit Court and rendered its own judgment dismissing the case.

Wise Carter Holds Fire Drive for Salvation Army

In response to the Salvation Army’s recent storage facility fire loss, attorneys and employees from the Firm collected donations to help restock. Last Friday, a huge fire destroyed the thrift store on Presto Lane in Jackson. All of the contents, much of which was donated during the holidays, were destroyed.

The Firm’s donations were delivered to the Salvation Army on Wednesday. Wise Carter Child & Caraway is pleased to help the Salvation Army in its mission to serve the community and we look forward to being of service in the future.

Wise Carter Sponsors PaLATE Foundation Event

Wise Carter sponsored King’s Daughters Medical Center’s (“KDMC”) second annual PaLATE Foundation event to benefit the KDMC Foundation.

The fundraiser, which was held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Lincoln Civic Center in Brookhaven, featured cooking demonstrations by Chef Robert St. John and a book signing with St. John and Wyatt Waters.

Wise Carter Sponsors the 2014 Hope Gala – Crossroads to the Cure

Wise Carter sponsored the 2014 Hope Gala – “Crossroads to the Cure,” a formal event to benefit the Mississippi Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (“JDRF”).

The event, which was held on January 25, 2014 at the Country Club of Jackson, honored Mississippi State Treasurer Lynn Fitch. The firm also donated funds in support of JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes this past October.

Wise Carter Eminent Domain Case Featured in the Clarion-Ledger

James C. Simpson, Jr. and T. Russell Nobile won an appeal involving the Harrison County Utility Authority (“HCUA”).

On January 14, 2014, the Mississippi Court of Appeals sided with the HCUA in a dispute over the use of eminent domain to take private property for post-Katrina infrastructure improvements built with Community Development Block Grant money.

Among other things, the ruling overturned 48,000 in attorney’s fees awarded against the HCUA and significantly reduced the risk of further liability arising out of related, secondary litigation against Wise Carter’s client and several private contractors.
