Spiller v. Premier Medical Group of Mississippi dba Kosciusko Medical Center, et al.

In March, 2016, Mark Caraway and Kimberly Howland prevailed in a jury trial in which they defended two family practice physicians and their clinic against allegations of medical negligence.

Plaintiffs claimed the death of their mother was causally related to a blood transfusion ordered and managed by the two doctors. The defense contended that the defendants did not breach the applicable medical standard of care in ordering the transfusion, allowing the transfusion rate to be determined by hospital policy, properly managing the patient’s symptoms when they developed and in allowing the patient to be discharged at the conclusion of the outpatient transfusion.

The case was filed in Attala County, Mississippi. After a 3 day trial, the jury returned an 11-1 verdict in favor of the physicians and clinic.
